**About the Position:** These positions are located in the Community Based Primary Care Clinic, Kapolei, HI.
Salary includes 16.51% locality pay. Currently authorized 12.25% cost of living allowance, which is subject to change without notice.

As a Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation), you will perform a full range of receptionist, recordkeeping and miscellaneous clerical duties within the ambulatory setting:
* Enter, manipulate, and/or retrieve information and data from various automated systems such as the Composite Health Care System (CHCS), the Ambulatory Data System (ADS), the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), and the Defense Manpower Human Resource System information (DMHRSi).
* Coordinate and/or schedule patient appointments with various clinics or at other medical treatment facilities.
* Receive patients and visitors as the initial point of contact in person or telephonically.
* Resolve complaints of a local administrative nature and refers other complaints to appropriate authorities.
* Maintain patient records both electronic and paper.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
**Specialized Experience:** To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience in using an automated information system to track and maintain information and records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
* Knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures of a health care facility
* Skill in providing clinical support services
* Skill in using automated data entry and information processing systems
* Skill in communication
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
**Education Substitution:** Successful completion of a full four-year course of study from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification.
**Combination of Education and Experience:** Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet the total experience requirement. The percentage of the requirements that you meet must equal at least 100%. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your total semester hours of education (beyond the second year) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.) NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification.
